In 2016 I will explore and be guided by the following values…

  • Mutuality
  • Self expression
  • Beauty and ease
  • Wellness

I am thinking of mutuality as developing my sense of being in collaboration with others rather than being in competition – that I can talk and act to ensure everyone’s needs are respected. I am going to continue reading and blogging and going to nonviolent communication courses and practicing what I learn to totally immerse myself in mutuality.

Self expression

I love blogging. So to further my self expression I will continue having fun blogging and blog more purposefully. I want to make my posts more interesting and accessible, to post more of the creative stuff, to write about and be informed by nonviolence. I also want to connect more with other bloggers and develop a sense of community. I have signed up for the WordPress Blogging 101 class for a kick start.

Beauty and ease

When I chose this one I knew where I wanted to start… my house is still crammed to the brim with moving boxes (full, empty and neither full nor empty) and stuff that simply doesn’t fit right. To lift myself from box-apathy, I have purchased a copy of Marie Kondo’s The life-changing magic of tidying up and will be following Kondo’s advice to create some ease and beauty in my home. I may also get around to planting some flowers.

I absolutely love and appreciate my body and health. Last year I went on a version of the paleo diet for 3 months. This made a big difference to my health and I can no longer ignore that my diet causes unpleasantnesses in my body. Thus, I will eat my way through 2016… munching on veggies, fruits, and meats and abstaining from gluten and lactose and from stuff with added sugar. I know this is where I am most likely to fail, but I want to be kind to my body, so will give it another crack.

What about you?

I would love to read what others are planning. If you would like to share, please leave a comment or a link to your own post on your 2016 🙂

    1. Hello Bernd,
Thank you. I am glad that there are now many opportunities to learn nonviolence in different places now compared to twenty years ago when I was studying for my career. Best luck with your course too and I hope that the things that are just going to happen this year are great ones 🙂

  1. Hi Rowena, I would love to read your blog regarding non violent course. I admire Gandhi and Aung San Suu Kyi who always practice non violence intervention in politics. I also love to hear about your diet plan, I should start doing it for myself. It must be pretty tiring for you to resettle things in new house. I am sure it takes time, do it slowly and reward yourself with small little things whenever you finish cleaning a box or two. I will be looking forward to read your new posts.
